For decades El Salvador is ravaged by war. In the Eighties a bloody civil war tore the country apart. Now a new war is going on in the streets of the capital San Salvador. So-called Mara gang-members fight each other and the security forces. The police and the army crack down hard and many lives are lost in this war. In an environment of deeply-entrenched poverty, few people still care about the gangs. But in a small church one priest refuses to give up on the youth of El Salvador: Padre Antonio Lopez Tercero. This priest sparks controversy, but for Mara gang members wishing to escape the violence, he is their last hope. |
