Maybe it’s the actors or just better scripts but movies were so much better. This isn’t a break away best thing I’ve ever seen but I was engaged the entire time from start to finish. No hollywood thrills and explosions every 5 minutes needed. Good movie to fill the time between the next Big Box Office bomb. 7.5/10
This has always been a favorite of mine. I really do enjoy movies that are character/dialog driven. Just focus on telling an interesting story. No need for all the FX/CGI.
I forget where I watched it, I think it was on a late night show like Conan. The guest was an actor who does some producing/directing now. He explained how the movie industry has grown so big that it’s starting to eat itself. Where if they don’t keep pulling in those 500 million plus profit movies they’ll go bankrupt. So they don’t care about those smaller movies and won’t give them a chance like they use too. That’s why theres mainly only these “huge” box office explosions now. Which is unfortunate and honestly a real let down.
That’s such a shame too because those weird little indie films are usually the best. We really lost something with the closure of video stores. Go out & rent a few videos & that was your weekend. I don’t know why streaming sites don’t recreate that vibe but they just don’t. I rarely watch movies now. Last movie I saw in the theater was the newest Indian Jones & that was just because I had seen all the others in theater so, tradition :)
Actually that’s also something he mentioned that I forgot to say. Where even if a movie doesn’t hit it big in the theater they can make up for it on the back end. Aka in sales from Video sales and rentals, which is non existent these days do to the internet like you said.
Yah, all those indie/small “cheap” movies are gone with the wind now. Shame, some of those are now cult classics and are some of the best movies.
Going to the movie store to rent were some of my best childhood memories. Nothing like it. Last time I went to the theater it was almost 20 bucks for just the ticket, no drinks or snacks. Forget that.
and holy shit that ending. I did not see that coming. That’s some cutt throat shit right there. Wow.
Yeah, I put that ending up there with 6th Sense, Fight Club & Usual Suspects.
I was like, he kills his boss and takes his place. Surely, but noooooooooo. Coldddddddd bloodedddddd lol. I want a promotion as much as the next guy but god damn.
It felt like a lot of movies in the mid-late 90s had some unexpected twists or endings that just don’t seem common now or maybe because I watched all those nothing seems too unexpected to me. It is very rare for a movie, or especially a TV show, to shock me. TBF, I watched alot of weird little movies back then.
