Mitrovica, Kosovo is divided along ethnic lines, between Serbs and Albanians, by the river Ibar. The bridge that spans this river is often a flashpoint for the region’s tensions, so much so, the locals named the beatings handed out there a Kosovo Kiss. On May 30, 2010, Serbia held elections in North Mitrovica - a move many saw as a breach of Kosovo’s sovereignty since Kosovo declared independence in 2008. The film is a visceral account of that election day, that puts the viewer on the bridge at the height of the day’s conflict, and with those who must deal with its aftermath. It reveals The Main Bridge as a heartbreaking paradox for Mitrovicians that deal daily with a bridge that divides them. |
