A story about a Chinese-African American, Denzel Williams who just graduated from high school. He attends a celebration dinner with his mother, Lily who is Chinese at his Chinese grandparent?s house - Lily’s parents. Denzel’s grandmother loves her grandson, while his grandfather is still upset at the fact that Lily married a ‘Black man’. They arrive after the graduation at her parent’s house. The two are welcomed by Grandma Julia, while Grandpa Henry sits sternly in his chair reading the newspaper. They have dinner and talk about graduation. Denzel mentions that he didn’t get any awards, but got honor roll. Grandpa shakes his head. After going to the bathroom, Denzel overhears a heated argument between his grandparents about a check to be given to Denzel. |
