Sink Float Swallow Spit invites the viewer into a quality of seeing that responds to symbolism and kinetics rather than spoken language and is not beholden to a clear cause and effect logic. Rather, the film features a montage of shots and scenes inspiring free association and wandering thoughts. The film speaks to the viewer on the level of the body. And there, a liminal space opens, where notions of wild and tame blur. The landscape becomes its own alluring character, at times propelling the performers into action or rest, at times causing them to recede like the tide into to the dry creek-bed, urban river or air. The resulting imagery and movement sequences become hypnotic. |
