Details:

August 15th 2013… This day marks the 39th commemoration of the occupation of Alexia’s hometown, Famagusta, by Turkey, after the 1974 Turkish invasion on the Island of Cyprus. This is the documentation of Alexia’s visit to her occupied home of FAMAGUSTA on two historically significant days - July 15th and on July 20th 2013. On July 15th 1974 - the 1974 coup d’état took place in Cyprus, overthrowing the democratic government. On July 20th 1974 - The First Phase of the Turkish invasion began from Kyrenia, the northernmost part of Cyprus. This lead to Phase II of the invasion, which took control of nearly 40% of the northern territory, including Famagusta and followed by the illegal occupation of the land since 1974. Followed by the occupation of Famagusta. So on, July 15 and July 20th 2013, Alexia visits her illegally occupied hometown of Famagusta from which she and her family and thousands of fellow Cypriots had to flee, after the July 1974 Turkish invasion. Alexia visits her home and the Ancient Greek Amphitheater of Salamina and other familiar areas of her occupied hometown. Then, at dusk: she has to leave as she is not allowed to stay there. Other inhabitants live there now.
