Rape culture is a concept that examines a culture in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. The Quiet Culture team researched the concept of rape culture and found that most people, especially men, had never heard the term, and those that had, didn’t understand the concept. Rape culture is something the majority of American women have to face on a daily basis and something that most men, at one point or another, have unknowingly been guilty of perpetuating. Rape culture is truly a pervasive issue in American culture and the fact that most people have never had a conversation about it is unacceptable. Something has to change. After reaching out to nationally recognized women’s organizations and support groups like WEAVE, the crew of Quiet Culture set out to interview a myriad of experts on rape culture and rape trauma as well as victims affected by the repercussions of rape, in an effort to raise awareness of Rape Culture. |
