With the advent of adolescence, Bablu encounters a strange feeling within a feeling of being a woman trapped in a man`s body. And with this, begins a painful journey. Shocked and feeling disgraced, the kith and kin disown him, driving him out of the house; nay, out of their very lives. Abandoned by the family and the society, Bablu has nobody to turn up to, but the community of eunuchs like himself. Here he comes across the eunuchs clapping and begging on the streets, overlooking the repulsion, the hatred and the rejection for them reflected in the eyes of the passe by. He takes refuge in a different world altogether, devastatingly pitiable, with a different system and different traditions; a community looked down upon from time eternal, by the mainstream of the human society, for no fault of its. But it is here, that Bablu meets Rupa who showers motherly affection on him. It is here in this society of the unfortunate ‘outsiders’, that he comes across the firebrand social worker among them who fights for their human rights the rights enjoyed by the mainstream society, but denied to the eunuchs. We The Outsiders’ unfolds this world of eunuchs, cursed by the nature and condemned by the fortunate ones… and compels the society at large to scrutinize its own inhuman attitude towards these unfortunate human beings. |
