This horror cult classic is guaranteed to freak you out. It’s gross, bloody, and full of intense horror. Not all good horror is full of jump scares; the best ones tend to be slow burns ;)
That being said I hardly call this a slow burn. It isn’t long before this creature shows its ugly mug and all hell breaks loose.
The Thing shows up in true form at about 30 minutes in, and nothing is resolved. So “slow burn” is actually a correct reference. Well, a matter of opinion as well, I suppose. Given today’s shoddy (mostly) horror, this one is pure mastery of all elements.
I can agree with that for sure, and it definitely is a slow burn in comparison to other horror movies of the decade like Night of the Demons, Evil Dead series etc, al that being said, this movie is in fact my #1 Fav movie ever by a landslide and for me, checks every single box that a great movie should have not just in the horror genre, but of all time.
One of the very best if not the best scifi/ horror films ever made- no pc crap- or political commentary, cliché dialogues action hero junk, no needless romance just a hardcore look at a potential first contact scenario that turns into a paranoid struggle of survival, how and what the human race reacts under the extremes of a terrible situation and rise or fall in the face of ultimate adversity. Considered by Carpenter to be his best film If you haven’t seen this movie you are missing out.
the art in this movie still holds today
not to say back in the evning i saw it
it was realistic and scary as f..hell
Heck yeah and the best version to watch too. The newer adaptation sucks compared to this one. Kurt Russel is such a major hunk too. lol
Agreed, with the note that the 2011 The Thing is NOT a remake. It’s a prequel. With that in mind, it’s very good. Kurt Russell has has long been amazing. Check him out in the Escape from New York movies.
Well, I don’t remember going to the theater to see this movie. Kurt Russell was really hot back in 1982, and he’s still got it 42 years later. If I can find the time, I’ll watch this classic horror movie.
