Dedicated to the memory of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra pianist, Melody Lord, Moonlight is inspired by the McGovern/Lord arrangement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata Movement 1 for flute and piano. Moonlight follows an acclaimed pianist and composer, William Sinclair, and the effect that the death of his musical partner and fiance, Evelyn Reed, has on him. Set in the 1930s, the film takes place during William’s first solo performance following Evelyn’s death. Throughout his performance, William reflects on their musical and intimate relationships in a series of flashbacks. In the final minutes of the song, we see William’s thoughts become clouded as he stumbles between reality and fantasy. An innovative and refreshing take on classical music and silent film, Moonlight is an evolution of artistic expression. |
