A telecast of the October 23, 2011 awarding of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor to Will Ferrell (1967- ) in a ceremony in the concert hall at the Kennedy Center. With Ferrell and his wife, Viveca, looking on from the balcony stage left, 13 friends and co-stars from “Saturday Night Live” and Ferrell’s highest-grossing films come on stage to tell a story or two (or sing) and introduce a film clip. Then, Kennedy Center Board of Trustees Chair David Rubenstein presents a bust of Twain to Ferrell, who promptly drops and breaks it. Ferrell, the 14th recipient of the prize, recovers from the embarrassment to offer his thanks, in particular to Viveca and both his former wives. |
