Deserves more than a 5.9. Actually makes deep statements about mortality, religion, human history, civilization and the nature of humanity itself.
People who dscover this movie for the first time get disappointented because they take one look at Sean Connery in the psoter and expect to see a fun late 70s post-apocalyiptic epic action movie. But this is actually a very deep philosophical experimental low budget science fiction drama about the nature of mortality. And in that framework, it is a very good classical sci-fi movie.
quirky crazy sci/fi fantasy movie that was a film before it was a book , theirs nothing forward about this , so just enjoy the 70’s craziness of zardoz and Sean Connery by j boorman whom also brought us several other great films. ;)
