Don’t let the movie title fool you. Watch the movie. It’s quite interesting.
Cool.
I finally gave this movie a watch and it’s very clear a lot of people’s anger towards the movie is out of fear and ignorance towards the material. I highly doubt any of the people outraged watched the movie in it’s entirety. If they did they wouldn’t call it racist stereotypes. It’s not a racist stereotype for the art dealer to think Aren’s a waiter - It’s not a stereotype to be terrified an intoxicated white person is about to cause a scene and accuse him of something — that’s lived experience. How he responds to both situations sets up the foundational point of the movie.
They did a really good job at Casting the main characters. Jason’s character is mild mannered. At no point is his role satirical. You just see the chips falling around him and his ambivalence. Even his entitlement is played down to make it palatable.
The owner is the only one who is satirized and it’s pointed out that NO ONE identifies with someone who owns an island. That is why his character is “safe” to make fun of. The title of the movie and maybe two scenes are why people really have their knickers in twist. The rest of it is a really good way to SHOW those uncomfortable situations and conversations that the main character has to live with. It’s rewatchable and I would give it a 7. It’s not overly remarkable but I think it deserves the rating because it could have easily devolved into lowbrow humor but the jokes are witty and make you think about the problems they are addressing without completely alienating white people who watch it.
Entertaining, gentle satire but a bit silly at times. Ignore the flood of awful ratings, very likely from ppl who have no intention of ever watching it. IMO it’s about a 6.4/10.
Cute little chuckle at the end.
It was okay. I didn’t care for the plot because it felt a little cringe to me, but I knew what it was about going in. It has some really funny spots and those really carried the movie. The actors were good and I enjoyed watching them. Good for a one time watch for me 3/5.
Don’t let the movie title put you off from watching this.
Great movie. Very rewatchable.
rasist af
rasist isn’t a word. lol
How so?
crap
for me it’s a big joke about how black people have work/do magic/sacrifice just so white people can feel well, confident and happy in order to leave black people in peace and at the end another magic society appear an about supportive wives/girlfriends… it’s pretty ironic to me almost makes me wanna check who’s the writter. but I did enjoy it a lot.
