This is up there as one of the best and most original specials out in a very long time. I know this will get downvotted eventually, but don’t pass it up.
I do not agree & I’m a fan. I could only get through half of it & got bored. Not very interesting or funny imo. I did really enjoy his previous hour stand up, but this is WAY overrated.
Poking fun at religions is nothing new and although it used to amuse me, it just seems like low hanging fruit now.
pfft
Well Ari is Jewish so he has more of a basis to poke fun at Judaism from his own experience w/it. This is more storytelling than joke telling though. Humorous storytelling can be quite amusing but this is not too humorous imo. I’m usually quite open to different styles of standup & do enjoy great storytelling, but this is not it.
I don’t rate stuff I haven’t watched. Granted, he went into much more depth than other non-practicing or former Jewish comedians than I’ve seen before, but much of it I’ve heard before and jokes about Catholic priests are tired. Disclaimer: I’m 60 and have always been atheist (quite militant in my youth) so I’ve seen a lot comedy about religion. While many of the more ridiculous aspects of the Jewish faith are new to me, they aren’t any more ludicrous than some of the crazier stuff about other religions and even seem to parallel some of those beliefs. Maybe I’m just old and jaded, that’s a distinct possibility. :)
All religions are laughably ridiculous. Unless you are a believer. They are entirely made up of low hanging fruit. Just personally but for me religious humor is best as background or joke-adjacent.
Again with the fruit.
overrated? no studio would buy it so he put it out for free thats the complete opposite of overrated.
I follow a lot of comedians who are peers/friends of Ari & they’ve all praised this special since it was released. Also the fans have too mostly. That is my definition of overrated.
