A paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
“Right-wingers may whine about “woke” storylines now, but in the 1970s a communist was writing scripts about imperialism.” Rethink your username LMFAO
I have lived long enough to know the difference between capitalism and communism. I also know that ALL forms of government are inherently open to abuse because they are run by… humans. The name is just fine.
So you’re saying that the RDA, a human corporate entity that arrives on Pandora to exploitatively commodify it and monopolise the planets natural resource, has been sanctioned to do so by a….communist government? That Avatars plot, representing capitalist land grabs, deforestation, and demonisation and displacement of indigenous people is in fact a critique of communism? Yeah, the name TARDis is just fine.
RDA is just one of the “companies that run earth. Just as in Alien and other scifi shows and books the companies has replaced normal governments. I don’t know why you are confused… it is a standard trope these days that capitalistic companies evolve into governments. It is also standard that by replacing governments they become comunist because the company/government now owns the means of production.
You’re literally describing Fascism, not Communism. Stop trying to turn reality on its head to fit your ridiculous “communism bad, therefore if bad then communism” paradigm.
never said that and please make arguments to what I said instead of creating a strawman. In fascism the state controls the company, in communism the company controls the state. It would appear you are defending communism, a system that has caused more deaths than any other. As i stated before all our current systems be they capitalism, fascism, or communism are bad simply by virtue of them being run by and inevitably abused by human beings.
If a entity rules a population and owns the means of production it is by nature a “government”. It does not matter if it started as a company or elected officials or by internal war where the victor kills his way to the top. Still communism or socialism, period.
The companies in Avatar are powerful enough to equal governments (like some companies now) but that doesn’t mean it’s communist, still? The government didn’t seize private businesses, in fact the opposite - government services like infrastructure and healthcare were privatized.
If the company owns the means of production and then becomes the government it is no different than if government takes the means of production. The end result is the same… a communist government.
That’s still not true, but it’s also not the status quo of the Avatar universe anyways. Was the East India Trading Company communist? Were American west railroad towns communist?
in communism, the workers own the means of production. Very important difference. Government control of production is fascism. You are regurgitating propaganda.
Only in some utopian ideal of communism do the workers own the means of production. In the real world for all human existence the “communist party” controls the means of production. The “party” is not the worker class but instead an elite group. Communism is like “Animal Farm” in that “all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others”
watching for the first time !
Yayyyy!
I love the color, especially the night scenes.
My Dad recommended this movie years ago. I’m watching it today. Finally. Thanks to these comments. It was a great reminder.
Fantastic portrayal of the devastating harms of capitalism.
Hmmmm… all powerful government
trying to take control of property belonging to people… gonna call communism on this one.

You have that 100% backwards. Stop talking about things you clearly don’t understand.
You spelled capitalism wrong. This is a COMPANY that is trying to STEAL something for PROFIT. Capitalism.

The wealthy in the US are our ruling class. They control the government and own the means of production. Unregulated capitalism.
Agreed.
