= Low Quality | = Medium Quality | = High Quality | How do I watch these? |
Decent movie with excellent quality, well worth a watch, especially if you’re a fan of the books.
That being said, there was a lot missing from the film that would have made it far more coherent.
As it stands, I doubt that it will garner enough interest for a sequel much less the Franchise this book series deserves.
Not badly made or anything .. But I dont think Ill remember it in a week
This was just a good rainy day flik to watch. Good fun.
Good movie! Well worth the watch!
This is aimed for kids who haven’t read the book. I’m an adult who didn’t read but love these type of fantasy action flicks and kept picking apart flaws. Don’t want to spoil with what I didn’t like and after hearing about what this should’ve been in novel feel like Disney ruined this by playing it safe. Should’ve been darker and given proper character portrayal and development. A lot of the choices made were sporadic and didn’t make sense rushing relationships to push story forward. They pulled another a Wrinkle in Time and ruined what could’ve been an excellent franchise.
So, it’s a movie. Thought it was going to be a series. Kinda disappointed, was looking forward to a good series, but that’s cool, hoping the movie is a good one!

Well, just got done watching this for the first time, and have to say it was pretty damn good! Probably will have to watch it a second time at some point, as I was really not disappointed, but was a bit sidelined by stuff going on in the house at the time, would like to be paying more attention to it.
That being said..wish it wasn’t Disney, but at least it wasn’t a cam copy either where we had to deal with the one X-Bet commercials! Damn, those can be such a pain! Was really expecting those, and was glad not to have to deal with that! Hey, sometimes, you just have to deal with the shit you have to deal with to get advance stuff, but those are a bitch to deal with, and sure that others would agree. :) Either way, thinking that this ended in a way that would be great for a series to start, and would love to see one, would be a great series if done right!
I find as soon as Disney get their hands on a script the movie is going to be crap, they still seem to have the no blood mantra they have had since walt setup the place way back when, even when they got the rights to Star Wars those movies went downhill very quickly, at least with Artemis Fowl it is a good movie to watch during this lockdown we are all having to endure, it is also a movie you don’t feel like plucking your eyes out, like so many other movies I have seen of late.
Having read the books - this was a total disappointment
I haven’t read any of the AF books but figure i’d be disappointed in this movie if i had. It’s hard to say exactly why it doesn’t work.. In a world where fairies are a hi-tech paramilitary force the CGI is impressive and there are some good action sequences but the story is lacking as is the acting. Artemis the actor is unconvincing, his acting consists of one ‘serious’ expression.. The fairy Holly Short, played by Lara McDonnell, is the best actor on show, while the bargain-basement Hagrid-lookalike dwarf played by Josh Gad is sadly no Robbie Coltrane. Even the presence of Judi Dench can’t lift the enterprise though i fancy she enjoyed playing in pointy ears!. Ken Brannagh’s direction is sound enough, the film looks great but would’ve been a lot better had they spent less on CGi and more on plot development and acting.. and Jeez why do action flicks need so much insistent, weepy music throughout every piece of dialogue. It would’ve been much better to make a series of this story as originally intended with less expensive tech wizardry and better writing. Generally altogether unsatisfactory and they left a BiG open-end for further instalments, which if they’re made really will need be a lot better after the poor reception of this mish-mash.. i wonder if Disney will want to risk the cash after being forced by CV to release this direct to streaming? They spent $125 million on this movie for an 88 minute entertainment, extremely poor value when you do the math. Best line, “This world needs more fairies like you.” How true :((
Thank you uploaders. I have been wanting to see this movie, and now that I have I’m disappointed. Disney didn’t do the book justice. This was just action crap. The books are far more intelligent than this. Another miss for Disney’s failing standards.
I have watched it now a couple of times, yes its a kids action movie but to see Dame Judi in the green bodysuit should have earned it a 5 at least the cast is a rich blend I didn’t mind it, before you say anything no I have not read the book regrettably I have a form of dyslexia that makes it impossible to take in the words even typing this is a long chour.
the pacing of this movie is all wrong lol.. “you think this is a game!! my father is dead” …artemis goes from smiling like a fool to quickly saying “can I trust you?”..then takes off his protection goggles..holy crap..did they make this movie in 6 months? maybe even 6 weeks. The narrator who isn’t a dwarf..but is a dwarf..but is a gnome..but is a dwarf…big try hard and too many people in the movie are straining their vocal cords..I get it’s a kids movie, but cringeeeee
It won’t be easy to find a better movie to watch than this one.
better than the 3.8 would lead you to believe; but certainly pretty darn bad.
The story was just all over the place; constantly jumping and blatantly skipping over large sections. People meet & all of a sudden it skips scenes and they are the best of friends. A lot of makes little to no sense. all that being said; as the first movie released in what seems like ages; I still enjoyed watching it.
5/10
Worth the watch if you have nothing else to do on a rainy day… Or right now any day. The movie was badly made with so many mistakes, from changing the original voices from certain characters, way too much info tried to put in all at once which made it hard to follow sometimes. Really didn’t have much of a story oh, and there was some real corny parts and parts that just didn’t need to be. The narrator’s voice that they used was the wrong one, Sean Connery would have been a better choice for narration. This movie could have been a lot better but it seems like it was rushed.
wasn’t horrible…but not really great. I might have liked it more if I was 11
Loved it. Watched it and watched it again. Great for adults and kids to watch together too.
