Kazumi is a successful music composer in Tokyo. He receives a telephone call from his mother and is told about his former teacher’s death. Getting on to a train to attend the funeral, Kazumi’s thoughts wonder back to his youth. It is 1994 and Kazumi is a high school student studying to get into a music school. Since his mother can’t afford to buy a piano, Kazumi practices at his teacher’s house. He is also in a band with his friends and they decide to go to Tokyo to play, though off-campus activity is banned by the school. On their way, they get into an accident and the school finds out. Upon being confronted, Kazumi blurts out that he had received permission from his teacher; an action that jeopardizes the teacher’s position at the school - Memories of his youth come back to him like scattered pieces of a musical composition.
