A documentary about mathematician Eliyahu Rips. Eliyahu Rips was a child prodigy growing up in the Soviet Union. On 13 April 1969, at the age of 20 he tried to set fire to himself in protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia. His attempt was stopped and for two years Rips was incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital. Nowadays he is regarded as one of the world’s most brilliant mathematicians. At the same time he is popularly known for his attempts to find encoded messages in the Torah. Yet despite all the negative reaction from the academic world his Bible code research continues. |
