Get your stock of kleenex out. I loved this epic swansong for Tony Bennett. 95 years old. Sad, he has Dementia/Alzheimers. I grew uplistening to his music, watching his programs, and, other entertaining programs he was featured on. My parents played records of his. I listened to his crooning on the radio. And as I got older and gravitated to the music online, I periodically put his ditties on for an afternoon.
An article in AARP magazine, and many other websites, print mags, e-mags, etc., picked up on his interview he did last year when he announced he had Dementia/Alzheimers. He has trouble remembering lyrics to some songs. That’s what the disease does, it robs the brain of complete cognizance and recall. Grateful he still has some cognizant and recall ability. Albeit I’m assuming he had an earpiece with a person feeding him the words to the lyrics of the songs. HE DID FANTASTIC!!!
His health has deteriorated. Very telling as he was holding onto the piano. And at the end of the program was escorted off stage by Lady Gaga. His swagger has slowed significantly, as you will/did see as they walked super slow off the stage, he’d stop, turn, and give a wave/bow to the adoring family, fans, guests, celebrities, and musician celebrities in the audience.
What a wonderful way to officially ‘retire’(though he’d retired a while ago) and be honored by peers, family, fans.
It was fantastic!
