Regina Pacis was the largest temporary holding centre for migrants in Italy. From 1998 to 2005 it gave shelter to over 65 thousand migrants on the coasts of Salento. Left in a state of neglect for many years, it was bought by private citizens and turned into a luxury resort. However, the renovation works brought to light the indelible marks of a past made up of violence and abuse, which comes alive again some years later to rescue victims and perpetrators from oblivion.
