Three corrupt politicians from a small party involved in a plot of sex, drugs and betrayal are the protagonists of an agile and dreamlike narrative. Young director Luan Cardoso’s first feature, Ménage, was produced on a low budget and focuses on a scandal starring immoral public figures revealing the pathological dimension of their toxic masculinities. Based on these characters, the film brings to the scene the worst that Brazilian society can produce, photographing with some sarcasm their inappropriate relationships in the public and private spheres, giving a dreamlike contour to situations of pure horror. Classified as the fantastic genre, it flirts with the political and horror thriller, resulting in an original film that testifies to the director’s inventiveness and willingness to authorial work. Selected for 20 festivals around the world, it won 24 awards, including “Best Film, Direction, Screenplay, Editing, Soundtrack - for Kiko Dinucci and Rodrigo Campos - and Actors - for Vinicius Ferreira, Francisco Gaspar and Lino Camilo. Among the festivals where the film was shown are the “XVII Fantaspoa”, the “8th Caruaru Film Festival”, the “5th Rio Fantastik Festival 2020”, “Inhapim Cinefest” the “Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival” 2021 and the “Festcimm - Film Festival in the Middle of the World”. In partnership with the São Paulo distributor Lira Filmes, “Ménage” hits the screens in March 2022. |
