A pretty decent love story set in a time of world conflict. Was it historically accurate? It seemed to follow what I understand to have happened or close enough for me. I enjoyed the ride and strongly suggest using an English SRT for the German and French parts but, even without I did get the general gist of what was being said. I did go back and watched those scenes to make sure I had gotten it right and did for the most part, context matters. I think they did a pretty good job on the dubbing too.

kraichgau 2 points 1 year ago.

they call it “Hitlers first defeat",when in fact the germans just left the town in order to move some kms north of it,but stayed and won, after the poles/french and brits left the norwegians alone.
this is historical incorrect,thats all

MontyFly 6 points 1 year ago. 4/5 stars.

It’s just a movie. I didn’t watch it for its strict adherence to historical facts, nor did I review it based on its historical accuracy.

what a one-sided and false recount of the real events….
seems, the norwegians as well as other nations have to clean their history.
they accepted the breach of neutrality by the british by mining their waters, they accepted, that german ships were taken over by british in so called neutral norwegian waters and were wondering, why germans covered their supply routes?
as well, they tend to forget their norwegian people which joined the germans…

the fun part? the british, which created this mess for the norwegians, took their feet into their hands and run and left them alone,as fast as they got kicked out of france in dunkirk…
what kind of ally..

Farmboy41 7 points 1 year ago*.

Lol Peaceful nations normally do not side with aggressor nations. Though individuals can and did collaborate with hostile forces if they believe the alternative is death. What happened in France had nothing to do with a lack of support from the British. The British committed a large portion of their aircraft and troupes to France. France had more and better armor than the invading German army yet they surrendered almost with out a fight. This left the British facing a large mobile armored force with no way to combat them. France was responsible for their own defeat trying to fight a war that they were in a way responsible for themselves. If not for the incredibly harsh terms set that they insisted on in the treaty of versaille. Germany would have never sank into the hardship that allowed a psychopath like Hitler to appear as the savior of the German people.

kraichgau 5 points 1 year ago*.

mostly agree with you,but britain left france,before they/france surrendered….
for your information, for example in the netherlands, more people sided with germany than there were people fighting with the allies..and they didnt fear “death” by german hands
danish soldiers got the formal “ok” from their government to join german forces by danish law(which was revoked 1946 and ended in imprisonment for those, who survived. this is a clear jurisditionic violation, because you can only be judged by the laws actual valid).
its not that easy.

take a history book and read :)
btw,the last part of my comment is translated in the movie in english for the audience…the brits fled and left the norwegians alone

i dont hate anybody, but its a constant political term the british empire used…empowering other nations to get bold and once the trouble starts, to neglect them. Happened with Poland,Norway,France,Greece,Yugoslawia and others.
Every time, there were “guarantees” for support and every time the brits left the people behind.
You dont have to take my word, just read a history book

did you watch the movie?
if so,my advice stands, read a neutral history book

both Hitler and his ideology were consequences of the lost first world war and the results(Versaille,hyper-inflation,political chaos and mass-unemployment).
that they ended in evil disaster, was hardly clear in 33 to the common people, because the book of hitler hasnt been read by most of them.
the fight between communists and hitlerists went on over the full time of weimar and the communist idea wasnt appealing to most germans.
he was a huge disaster for germany as a nation, but he didnt come out of the air and other nations did their part into bringing him into power

AmieWarren 2 points 1 year ago*.

“other nations did their part into bringing him into power”
Sort of like Russia and China want our ex-President (he whose name shall not be spoken) to once again be in the White House? They wanted Hitler because he was insane and could be manipulated. Same same here. Evil will only triumph for a short while, then it will be defeated by the forces of good.
I admire your lifelong study of history. Too few people know their country’s history, and most don’t care to. That’s why they become sheeple, believing the lies of the autocrats.

kraichgau 5 points 1 year ago.

i meant it differently,but who cares? :)
for example the situation arround the “nation`s league” controlled german city of Danzig(Gdansk),which was a constant issue during weimar. It could have been solved peacefully long before Hitler entering the first government, but britain boosted poland to refuse any negotiation.

dosmundos 2 points 1 year ago.

Russia and China were our allies in every World war, you know, the good guys. If any one country wanted an insane manipulatable president of the USA they got their wish Jan 6th 2021. If you want to talk about ‘neutrality’ let’s not forget to mention the country that sat on it’s ass for 2 years while London was bombed. If Japan hadn’t attacked Pearl Harbour and Germany declared war on them all of Germany would be now speaking Russian.

Jirido 1 points 1 year ago.

Russian speaking germans.. That would be fun to see.. leatherhosen, ridingboots and balalaika. Sauerkraut would be a common nominator.

Alien 1 points 1 year ago.

Yes, lederhosen are made of leather. Denominator. A nominator is someone that nominates a nominee.

AmieWarren -1 points 1 year ago.

Some Germans do speak Russian. Remember, the USSR owned half of Germany for decades. Do you really think they were allowed to speak only German?

What we got on Jan. 6, 2021 was a bunch of whackos attacking the capitol for the first time since the Civil War — which they celebrate every day with all their confederate flags and shite. I’ve never seen people celebrate a war they lost. They just have no shame, do they? “Hey, we’re a bunch of traitorous thugs who tried to overturn the government TWICE!” They lost the first time, they’ll lose the second time.

anything historicly wrong? if so,please advise me .
i study my country`s history now for over 40 years in detail but am willing to learn from you.

justmewhoknew 5 points 1 year ago.

Sorry, no matter how much you try to tell the true history the more people argue against it. That is why our world is on a path to repeat itself no one wants to believe the real history only what is pounded in their minds. That is why they slowly give up more and more of our freedom for the sake of world leaders so called safty.

kraichgau 5 points 1 year ago.

true, but in this case, the truth is easy to control.just grab a history book, check about the battle of narvik, check, who left the battlefield and when and who ruled the country after that untill 44….
your point is right, prominent pushed “history” tends to overlap true history
