Born in 1944, Diana Ross grew up in the poor district of Detroit, where Motown, the label that revolutionized black music, was founded in 1959. When her group, the Supremes, got its first contract in 1961, she was only 16 years old. After a difficult start, the Supremes had a string of successes before the singer’s undivided domination got the better of the group. Diana Ross pursues her career as a solo artist. |
