Astrid has turned her back towards the world, and in a desolated landscape she works on her art. She fails to grasp meaning in this world; it slips through her hands like a piece of soap. Disillusioned, she attempts to overcome the meaninglessness by working on a piece of land art, hoping to make something of significance. But the longer she works on it, the more futile it becomes. Days pass, and her loneliness becomes stifling. Until one day she meets an eccentric but sober geologist, Emily. They quickly form a strong connection. Far away from the real world, in a desolate and beautiful landscape, they can fantasize, dream and philosophize carelessly; their lives seem idyllic. Emily’s arrival has stopped Astrid’s world turning for a moment, nothing else matters except their being together. She was the missing link en their friendship grows into love. Until the real world sticks its head up again, and Astrid has to decide if she will return to the world that she decided she would always stay away from. |
