Timo, a twenty-something man, is simultaneously going steady, hooking up, and desperately in love. Path to Nowhere is a film about difficult emotions and difficult decisions. What is the correct choice? What is the correct emotion? What is the correct desire? Timo meets three girls on his path to nowhere. They all bring about different aspects of his personality. Timo must make a decision. Path to Nowhere examines the dilemma of a contemporary person: There is a multitude of options available. In a world with omnipresent information technology everything not only seems possible, but actually is possible. Do the unbounded prospects actually limit us, rather than enable us to achieve what we want? How do we know what we want? That is a valid philosophical question. Maybe we just copy others. Maybe there are no real, genuine, original desires. Is Timo just playing his part in the context of mimesis? The other option is that our desires are genuinely complex and unattainable via analytical means. Our desires form a complex structure where we navigate with narrative as our map. Narrative is the norm, with which desires make sense. Without narrative, desires are afloat and attach to nothing. Path to Nowhere is a love story - a story of real, dreamy, and unattainable love. It is a narrative from the point of view of the protagonist, Timo. This is his story. The story takes as many forms as there are people who tell it. Path to Nowhere leaves the viewer puzzled with their desires. What do I really want? |
