Portraying the journey of a young man who is released from a prison and finds his way back home, Tunnel Passing transforms such a spiritual-and-physical home coming experience which recalls the young man Tao-yu’s inner conflict between reality and illusion. Looking for the comfort from his girlfriend, his wrong doing is not forgiven; yet incidentally he discovers he has a son. Back home, he indulges himself in an atmosphere of melancholy enforcing him fallen into a womb-like tunnel where he meets his younger-self and mother who leaves him in the childhood. Could an enigmatic old man be a reflection of the young man’s unconscious longing for a recuperated father-surrogate replacing his absence in the family of his former wife and son? Or even he is a projection of himself in the future who eventually constitutes his true value of selfhood. Tunnel Passing is a short film born out of love, yet such kind of love could kill.
