Sampanbok, literally ‘3000 holes’ in Thai, is in the easternmost province of Thailand, right across the mighty Mekong river from Laos. Known to those from other parts of Thailand as a hot, dry land, the area is in fact rich in both natural beauty and the human warmth of its native people, the Isaan. In 3000 Heavens, a teacher born and raised in the area tells us a simple story of Sampanbok, and the importance of the Mekong river to the Isaan people. |
