Details:

Gunnera sways silently in the breeze. An invasive, intractable species, it regenerates easily and must be buried and burned to destroy it. It thrives on commonage on Ireland’s Achill Island. A huge opening is cut through the bog, and at its centre stands a 36M diameter circle of precast concrete piers standing 4.2 metres high. Bog earth is banked around it. The structure, now condemned for demolition, was erected without planning permission over a weekend in 2011 by a bankrupt developer. The violence and beauty of the upturned earth, the illegal concrete structure, the drama in the landscape, and the constantly changing light are each described in montage, sound and image percussively counterpointing the unmoving camera. This is a film on the nature of the sublime.
