Details:

A socio-religious tale that presents the birth of Jesus, not 2000 years ago, but in the early 1900’s, in the southern United States, before the Civil Rights Movement. He is born to a Jewish father and an African American mother, and grows up traveling around the countryside preaching about peace, love and equality. The film takes place on the day of his execution by the Mayor and Police Chief of a small southern town, as he addresses two other black ‘criminals’ in his jail cell, and discusses his beliefs with the town’s mayor. The mayor represents the Pilate character, the police chief the Roman soldier who stabs him in the side. Mary, Mary Magdeline, Judas, and other biblical characters are represented as well.
