The Winter March follows eighteen-year old British Lieutenant John Le Couteur and the 104th Regiment as they march eleven hundred kilometers during one of the harshest winters of the 19th century. Facing ten-foot snow drifts and temperatures reaching twenty-seven below, these six hundred men departed from Fredericton, New Brunswick in February 1813 to reinforce the outnumbered defenders of Canada during the War of 1812. Six weeks later, they reached Kingston, Upper Canada; the timely arrival of the 104th staved off an American invasion. Based on Le Couteur’s wartime journal entries, this film dramatizes an inspiring Canadian tale of courage and determination. |
