A husband comes home to find his wife with a lover. Escaping through the window, the young man leaves only his suit behind. Instead of addressing the affair, Phil’s revenge is to treat their visitor, the Suit, as an honored guest. In an absurd fashion, the Suit is served food at every meal, watches the news with the couple, and is even taken on Sunday strolls through the suburb. When Matilda has finally had enough, she gives him a taste of his own medicine. Based on the short story by Can Themba, this face hinges on the unsaid; the suit becomes emblematic of everything they don’t say to one another. |
