Cella, is the first film, in a series of moral tales. The inspiration for the series comes from Eric Rohmer’s series “Six Moral Tales.” However, aside from the concept and the human factor, there is no theme (storyline, character, etc ) connection to Rohmer’s series. Whereas, the dialogue is an indirect tribute to the American writer, Bernard Malamud, who in 2014 would have turned 100. Cynthia Ozick describes, perfectly, in words— what the short film tries to capture in images and dialogue— when she writes: “His [Malamud’s] stories know suffering, loneliness, lust, confinement, defeat; and even when they are lighter, they tremble with subterranean fragility.” |
