Based on the philosophical theory of Solipsism and inspired by the writings of Phillip K. Dick, “The Solipsist” is a short film experience that places its viewers in a world where everything is in constant flux. Max is a successful attorney, who covets money and women more than true love and responsibility. When he wakes up one morning to find that he’s never actually been a lawyer at all, Max begins to realize that he doesn’t even remember a life beyond that. The only person he can trust is his best friend, Amy, a clinical nurse who realistically diagnoses him as a schizophrenic. Unwillingly to accept this truth and watching the world continually change around him, Max begins to experiment in various forms of sleep deprivation, believing that if he stays awake… nothing will change. But when he finally loses control of the only thing that he knows to be real (himself), Max reaches out to Amy once more, only to find that she too is no longer who he thinks she is. |
