Yuichiro, after suffering from cancer, learns that death is approaching. He learns of it before his wife, Chizuko does, whom he has been nursing for years. He has no one to depend on, no friends and no savings. Gradually he has no way out. The reality of elder-to-elder nursing is so difficult that it has drained away his energy, day by day. In the end he longed for the smile of him and his wife in a picture taken before at the lakeside. Yuichiro brings Chizuko to the lakeside, slowly pushing her wheel chair. Her expression however does not return, even if they could be the way they were. They jump to their death, being tied together with a scarf. He sees a phantom flash… The way between this side and the other side. The ice-covered lakeside leads to the other side. Chizuko smiles cheerfully and appreciating his care. Yuichiro sincerely feels that she surely has noticed the days he spent caring for her. He then quickly comes back to this side guiding her hands. He deeply misses their remaining time which can be shared together.
