man I can’t wait to see this, I first heard about it’s pending release in 2007 or 08 and I began to think it wasn’t ever going to happen. I heard the release date has been changed to may 31. Oh it will be a happy day
This is the movie that takes Taron Egerton to the front of the pack for best actor.
Great movie! Taron Egerton did an outstanding job with portraying a musical legend like Elton John.
Agreed I also liked that he sang as well instead of lip-syncing to Eltons songs.
Amazing! It had a very strong message, loved it! Taron was oustanding.
So much sadder than I ever thought. And That life though, wow. I will just say; Would you have picked up the pieces? I have always loved Elton John ever since I was very young and still does :) and now more than ever <3 Did not expect the movie to be this dramatic and good !
Far from what I hoped and expected but still found it ‘ok’. A lot of artistic license but I think it captured the story “they” wanted…just not a complete bio. So much missed I was hoping for. I remember seeing him after Capt Fantastic came out in ‘75, I think it was (vancouver) and hoped I could relive a bit of it, but, not really to be.
not a bio dude…. if it was it wouldnt lie and be saying he wrote and sang saturday night is right for fighting at 8 years old……………………… no this is not a documentary and not true to his life. alot of stuff in the movie is true like him having his songs wrote etc but the ages it shows him singing them is false and just how it keeps turning into a musical gets on my nerves
see that word fantasy. yeah fake and twisted. might have a couple true things thats ABOUT IT
my first impression of this was…. i tried to watch it got more and more stupid and like a retarded musical. not even a documentary or anything, thought it would be like his life but its all just not true and a musical and not even a good one in my opinion, but, would have to be GAY to like this movie if your a guy or just plain bored and like gay musicals, some are good but this one…. im good ill pass
Funny how there are gratuitous lesbian moments on prime time TV and every other movie and no one bats an eye, but the extremely rare movie would depict a relationship between two guys and butthurt morons like you would cry and sulk about it— like you can’t even endure the tiniest bit of m/m depiction while of course having no problem with the extremely gratuitous, ubiquitous lesbian garbage that’s out in every other movie you see. I didn’t even like this movie (for other reasons) but your comment is just so sulking and outright stupid.
I’m finally almost done watching and I have to say it has fallen way short for me. I expected way more. Most of it was like watch a really long music video in my opinion. I have been a huge fan of his for so long. Maybe it’s because I know so much is being left out. Well that’s my opinion folks
If this was taken as purely a Bio-Pic then this film has dates and ages of when songs were released wrong, the actual relationship he had with his manager would also be wrong ( yes they were lovers, but his manager wasn’t some spend the cash greedy fuck all ) but taking it for what it is, a brief glimpse into what Elton John was willing to share with the world, it’s a wonderful film and gives a vague insight to a man who younger viewers know as the Lion King guy or the Candle in the Wind singer. Older viewers know the crazed mess that he was when he took off and skyrocketed to the top from a nobody backup performer to a star. Also bravo to Taron Egerton for the commanding performance both physically and vocally.
Elton could envy this guy all to hell after all he can’t sing like that anymore since his throat surgery in the 80’s
Velvet Goldmine did it better, more beautifully, in a less corny way and with less misogyny and butthurt— all while Velvet Goldmine was technically a fictional story while this one was biographical. This movie was just so… corny and hokey and sulking. And I say this as a big lover of Elton and of glam rock on the whole. Forced myself through this film though I could hardly endure all the extremely gratuitous female nudity and objectification, it was so unnecessary and a really skewed depiction of reality. Even with the gay male relationships there wasn’t a single male in this movie anywhere near as objectified and fetishized as countless females were. And ofc they always demonize the mother and make her look like the sterotype of a horrible witch - even though mothers invest so much more into parenting than fathers and have it so much harder. It’s clear that this wasn’t a depiction of the way his mother actually was; rather, it was yet another one of countless stereotypical depictions of the “horrible witch mother.” Mothers are always demonized. It’s just so sulking.
lol u said butthurt talking about an elton john movie =O)
This movie is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time…. great acting by all
