As a youngster, trips to the city with my family were granted much touristy distraction. From toy store windows I discovered interest and eventually empathy for the horses cloistered around Central Park. I always felt that the life of entertainment was not meant for them. With a camera as blind as the horse’s eye, I finally decided to expose the age-old, year-round tradition of the horse carriage in its entirety. The events captured are of a tradition that often blinds bystanders to the cravings of commerce and sights of calamity. The hysteria of holiday travels through perspectives of all affected, for better or for worse. Those in control of the carriages mocked my documentation as tourists took pity on the bound, mislead horses. |
