What does it take to purse your dream? What’s the cost of letting yourself down? Bitter Laurels delves into these problematic questions in the context of the athletic sports along with the exploration of self-determination, ambition, victory and failure in the competitive world of track and field. The story revolves around two young friends and sprinters Ryan and Danny who train together preparing for a big contest. Switching between the real-time event in the stadium and the flashbacks of Ryan’s recent past the plot reveals the protagonist’s background and the pathos of his self-deceptive glory. Will there ever be redemption for the heavy burden that he brings on the athletics track? |
