KICHIGAI tells the tale of a group of party animals in the middle of a Tokyo night out. Down to their last yen, they spill onto the streets in search good times, dragging along Kaori, who is only looking for her next drink. Armed with cheap booze, the gang stumble upon a secret golden nightclub full of models and mirrors. Everyone inside is dressed in haute couture made of trash, and the party animals quickly find themselves the odd ones out. They attempt to mingle, and accidentally get involved in the birthday celebrations of Koki San, top fashion designer. Mayhem ensues as the birthday boy gets a big surprise. The semi autobiographical story of a real night out - or to be more precise, a blur of surreal nights out in Tokyo, KICHIGAI is mixed together with a cast of crazy characters and a soundtrack that makes you want to head to the nearest dance floor. Its hyper real cinematography and neon manga subtitles capture the addictive madness of Tokyo’s underground party scene, and show how easy it is to lose yourself in its dream world. After all, how long can you hold on if the ride never stops? |
