In New York City Suite, emphasis is on architectural marvel of contemporary metropolis. The film accentuates significance of virtual reality for observation of gender, history and nature. It is as well a film experience of information technology entwined into the city life of the 21st century. The city appears in this film in another dimension and time encapsulating. New York City Suite is an adventure through a strange and incredible parallel world; in musical terms, it is like the first and last movements of a cantata. Metaphorically, the image of New York is an interpretation of psychological and emotional changes in lives of its inhabitants. Architecture usually presents history through contemporary mediums. In New York City Suite, there is no evidence of the “past”. Future is an essential element of contemporary New York. Aimed to establish order in human ubiquitous existence, architectural caprice becomes less prevalent within urban space. It is explored here from within psychological realm. The film was shot in different neighborhoods of New York, one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse cities in the world. Locations for filming were chosen where the concentration and unity of the mass is in its most, and namely in the entrances and exits to major terminals, like Grand Central Terminal on 42nd Street, Port Authority on Eighth Avenue, entrances to Wall Street subway, Penn Station and other subway terminals. Selected clips show different ethnic groups and people of different backgrounds. All differences aside, this endless stream of people is unified by the same mood, spirit, and determination. |
