Highway is a film inspired by my mother and the traffic jam in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first film I directed in Malaysia since my graduation in Taiwan, I wanted to make a story in my personal experience, during my experience in the highway traffic jam, it always makes the chemistry to inspire me to think of this story This is a story about a nagging mother, and her college son. They came from a small town and intended to go for a wedding dinner in KL at this hazy day. While they passes the major highways in the city, the mother keep asking questions to the son, worrying about his study and future life, but the son just can’t stand the nag of this traditional minded mother. When the conversation became worse, they found out that they stuck in the highway traffic jam, more to worse, the air conditioner of the car stopped working at this awkward moment. As this two exhausted mother and son reached the destination, they found out that was actually the wrong day for the wedding dinner. Since then, they went out to fill up their empty stomach in a open space restaurant. The environment seems chilled and peaceful than in the messy highway, this is the first time that they had a chance to keep away from this narrow space of the car. Although both of them seldom talk afterwards, but their stress became more released, the film ends in this comfortable atmosphere. |
