Dos Calles y una Chica—Two Streets and Adela—allows us to get to know a person whose life, while not dramatic, is full of color and art. In addition, we observe and learn the character of a charming city in southern Spain, a city (Jerez de la Frontera)known as the ‘cradle of flamenco.’ It is its connection with flamenco that allows our heroine to successfully make a living as a flamenco dance costume designer and seamstress. Jerez, a very old city, is primarily represented by two streets that intersect close to Adela’s front window, each with its own, distinct daily rhythm. But Adela also goes out of her house on two occasions (for lunch, and to walk her little dog), so we are able to observe some of the signature locations in town: the cathedral, the central square, a balcony full of flowers, the city’s central market. Our film also has a fabulous sound track including flamenco singing by some famous artists (Antonio de la Malena, Manuel de Malena and other), original music by composer-guitarist Malena Hijo. and a short dance sequence at the show’s climax. |
