Through the prism of the music industry, explores the importance of art to those that create it and those that consume it. Like flies on a wall, we join ALITHIA watching as they arrive to play at prominent inner city venue in Melbourne, Australia. At face value TIBOR, JONNIE, JEFF, DANNY and VAL are good mates - seasoned professionals who go about the business of set-up and sound-check with a minimum of fuss. Yet under the surface, unease is apparent within and between each member. Participating in interviews with the film crew, we discover that the goals and aspirations of these dedicated musicians are changing, and in some ways, waning. Outside forces and conflicting priorities are represented by the band’s newly appointed digital marketing consultant and the manager of the venue where they are playing. More than ever, the commercial realities of running the band as a small business are in direct conflict with a deep desire to simply create art, share it and connect with the world through it. Punters assemble for ALITHIA’s ‘Departure Show’. Disinterest. Disconnection. Disaster? While based on a real-life band playing heightened versions of themselves, ‘SACRIFICE’ will be a work of fiction set within a mockumentary/docufiction format. |
