The story of the early pioneers of Nelson in the 1840s who laboured to establish both city and church in a new land. It traces the arrival of the first settlers, the hardships they endured and how their faith in God sustained them. It especially focuses on the Anglican Church and its first bishop - Edmund Hobhouse. His extensive travels, love for Maori and generosity toward the fledgling church are all explored - as well as his personal tragedies. |
