Samantha is alone in the society struggles to make human connections through this app, living her mundane routine observing others around her. Part of her day-to-day routine is visiting her grandfather, Harry, in an Old Age Home. Here, she speaks aloud, since her grandfather still likes to communicate this way; it reminds him of how he used to speak to Samantha when she was a child. Harry likes to crack jokes and flirt shamelessly. He will make any excuse to get a pretty young caretaker to come and assist him with his TV or laptop. Samantha also opens up to her grandfather as he is her main source of social interaction; Harry encourages Samantha to talk to people and make more ‘Friend Requests’. One day Samantha notices a young man called James on her journey to work and is drawn to the fact he reads old fashioned books instead of kindles. Samantha tries to find the courage in this story to finally make a human connection with James. |
