Inner-city kids are often exposed to gang violence in their neighborhoods; they don’t feel they belong and many do not have a way out of the mayhem. They need ways to escape and to be reminded of how much fun it is to be a kid. A northern California program is getting kids out of the inner-city and onto the beach, helping them gain confidence and hope. Ripple Effect, a program founded by local San Francisco surfers, takes inner city kids surfing to help them cope with hardship and feel good about themselves. |
