Three centuries after ceramic craftsmen first constructed their wood-fired kilns in La Borne, France, modern artists have created a vibrant multi-national community on the embers of this tradition. Many, though, face economic strangulation, political adversity and nagging artistic fragility as they work the clay and the sometimes capricious and unpredictable fires of their kilns. |
