An impassioned and abstract portrayal of the transitional stages of physical and mental development in the life of a young boy. It is a ten minute mystery drama where a seemingly conventional story of a pre-adolescent struggle with puberty is being reinvented into a symbolic ‘montage’ of basic human emotions - an exploration of personal and physical identity. This somehow grotesque take on sexual awakening, sociopathic parenting and the stereotypes of ‘becoming a man’ tells a story of a boy named Tom who becomes an unwitting ‘hero’ with a yellow circle. Being a victim of his abusive parents who are trying to treat their son of his nocturnal ‘malady’ with a tactic of shaming and punishing, the boy goes on a quest to defy his tormentors. The outcome of the quest marks the end of Tom’s childhood and the beginning of his adolescence. After killing a cuckoo bird and being forced to eat the dead animal the boy goes through a transformation and experiences the spring of his own mental and physical autonomy, now signaled with each note of the cuckoo’s call. |
