Deacon Black, a 27-year-old ex gunner of the last great war fought by humans, returns to a Los Angeles that has transformed dramatically by the fusion of flesh and technology. Struggling to adapt to his new surroundings, Deacon retreats to the underworld, where he becomes a major player in the black market sale and interaction between Purists (those who abhor cybernetic enhancements) and Premiums (those who embrace them). However, his self imposed exile from government control is short lived, as he is soon enveloped into a complex crisis that will pit him against an enigmatic terrorist who has cracked the code to immortality, and threatens to counter the worlds shift to singularity, through the onset of rapture. |
