I think you missed the main point of the movie—or at least what a lot of us fans saw in it. I don’t think the director (and co-writer) Roseanne Liang, was shooting for a statement like ‘a heroic woman overcoming obstacles’ (even tho that happened) or an attempt at anything serious at all.
Even tho it started out sober enough, it seems like Liang did that to lull everyone into settling in to watch a more or less serious film—just so they could be shock-shifted into a completely different, fun, crazy and wildassed joyride.
After it kicked into hyperdrive any thoughts of a coherent plot (or reality, for that matter) took a back seat to having lots of outrageous Hit Girl-esque fun.
I was irritated too, until I realized what had happened. Then I got the joke, woke up and really started to enjoy what I was watching.
I saw it as basically a redux of what had made Chloe Moritz into an instant popstar, made to give a lot of us another welcome dose of Hit Girl type fun.
