This is a women vs men movie, as blatant as they come. In fact the only male character that wasn’t just another bad guy was immediately killed, so he didn’t matter. The character development is 2D; no depth. I rooted for the main girl but I definitely wasn’t invested in her. Very forgettable, which is a shame with such a great cast. The only comedic scenes were with the little girl. Everyone else was wooden and robotic. Every person being stoic is just boring. I am all for female empowerment but adding at least some personality shouldn’t be so difficult. They could remake this movie with all men and you wouldn’t even notice. It’s like the writers thought just adding a little girl into the story takes care of the women/mother angle, therefore, feminist. It does not.
The action was generic. A lot of punchy and shooty, dozens of cuts and no stakes since you know most of the women are untouchable. The only time the men looked like they were trying to kill the main gals was when they were hiding behind something bullet proof. Otherwise they would just stand there pointing their guns at them without shooting. As if just waiting to be disarmed or shot instead. Although, that is a pretty standard movie trope.
